Lactulosa
Lactulosa is a synthetic sugar used primarily as a laxative to treat constipation and to help reduce high levels of ammonia in the blood in patients with liver disease (hepatic encephalopathy).

- Constipation (especially chronic)
- Hepatic encephalopathy (reduces blood ammonia levels)
How It Works:
Lactulosa is not absorbed in the body. It works by drawing water into the bowel and softening stools. In liver disease, it helps trap ammonia in the colon and remove it from the body.
How to Take:
- Taken orally as a syrup, with or without food
- Can also be given rectally in severe cases
- Dosage varies depending on condition
Common Side Effects:
- Gas or bloating
- Stomach cramps
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
Precautions:
- Not for long-term use unless directed by a doctor
- Use with caution in diabetics (contains sugar)
- Overuse can lead to electrolyte imbalance
- Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration
